Cohort of Swedish Men Clinical

Cohort of Swedish Men Clinical, COSMC, is a subcohort of Cohort of Swedish Men, with start year 2010. At the start, men who were over age 75 years and living in Västerås received an invitation letter to participate in a validated cognitive phone interview, complete an FFQ and a one-day food diary, and participate in a health examination. The health examination includes the same data collection as in the SMCC Uppsala. Participation in the cognitive phone interview is over 83%.

When all men over age 75 years had been invited, additional men in COSM living in Västerås county were invitedstarting with the earliest birth year, and continued until there had been 5,000 visits to the clinic. Besides an invitation to participate in a health examination a diet, health and lifestyle questionnaires and a one-day food diary were included. The health examination included weight, height, waist, hip, blood pressure measurement and body composition measurement using a bio-electrical impedance scale (Tanita, Tokyo, Japan). Samples of fasting blood, urine, and adipose tissue were also collected at the health exam. Data collection for this clinical subcohort ended in 2019. 1,062 of the men are married to or live together with a woman in SMCC Västerås.
