The Swedish Mammography Cohort Clinical Uppsala
From 2003 through 2009 participants in the Swedish Mammography Cohort below age 85 years and living in the town of Uppsala were randomly selected and invited to participate in a clinical subcohort. Of the 8,311 invited women 65% answered the received diet, lifestyle, and physical activity questionnaire and 60%, 5,037, participated in the health examination. The health examination included weight, height, waist, hip, and blood pressure measurements, and body composition measurement using a dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) scan. Samples of fasting blood, urine, fecal sample and adipose tissue were also collected at the health exam.
A subset of these women completed an additional FFQ and a physical activity questionnaire and wore a physical activity monitor and completed a 7-day activity record. A second subset of women completed a questionnaire on sun exposure in conjunction with a blood sample collected both during winter and summer months.
A second health examination including biological sample collection, and diet and lifestyle questionnaire, is ongoing for this clinical subcohort since November 2013. The second round also includes a one-day food diary and a cognitive interview.
